Everybody at Faith Community Church knows Steve. Every morning he would go to each person and shake their hand. He loved dressing up in festive hats, t-shirts, and pins. I can’t remember once when he wasn’t smiling.
Steve passed away on September 5, 2026, at Geneva General Hospital at the age of 79. Born December 7, 1946, Steve loved the Lord and his church family, and he deeply valued the friends and familiar places that filled his days. A regular at Water Street Café, Captain’s Café, and Long Pier Ice Cream. He enjoyed western movies and the records spinning on his old record player. More than anything, Steve brightened the lives of everyone he met, and those who knew him from his regular stops can still hear his familiar farewell: “I’ll see you next week! Bye bye!” He is survived by his sister, Minnie Stockner, and by a community of friends whose lives were made brighter for knowing him.
A viewing was held Tuesday, September 15, at Faith Community Church with funeral services following at 11:00 am by Pastor Nelson. Burial took place at South Lyons Cemetery.
