Nelson’s Heart for Nicaragua

Nelson's Heart for Nicaragua

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve sent an update about Nicaragua, but the work has not stopped. Matter of fact, it has increased significantly. Lots of work has been happening over the past 2-3 months. Since my last email, construction on a new church building has begun and is well underway.

This is Pastor Rosa Emilia Chamorro Palacios and her husband, Henry, on the right in the photo. They lead Lebanon Church – Jesus, King of Kings, located in the El Panama community of El Rosario, Carazo, Nicaragua.

They have been faithfully fundraising for their new building, leading services, and hosting community events. Pastor Pedro, in the right center of the photo, wearing a tie, leads the network of Lebanon Churches. He suggested that this would be a great congregation to invest in.

Eliel and his men got to work right away, digging footers, pouring concrete, and laying block. The new church building is located in the same courtyard as the structure you see above.

In less than six weeks, they were able to dig the foundation, pour the concrete footers, lay the block walls, build and install the roof trusses, and put the sheet metal on the new building.

Stage one is complete, but stages two and three are still ahead of us. We would like to plaster and paint the walls and install the electrical work, which will be stage two. Stage three will be to build and install all the doors and windows and pour the concrete floor. Eliel will actually buy a tree, have it delivered to the property, and cut and mill it onsite to build the doors and windows, to save on costs. These handmade windows and doors are quite beautiful.

We will need $3,000-$3,500 to accomplish these next two steps.

An exciting update that I can share with you is that we have sent a down payment to reserve an oceanside resort where we will be holding a pastors’ conference for 25 pastors and their spouses from this network. It is a two-day conference scheduled for December 9 and 10. There will be quite a few pastors in attendance who have never gotten to experience anything like this. They’ll be a total of 60 people at the conference.

They have been faithfully teaching and preaching in remote regions for decades, and it is our heart to bring encouragement, edification, and comfort to them. Many of them do not even have the resources to pay for a bus ticket to get to the conference.

Thanks to a recent generous donation, this event is nearly paid for. We are in need of another $2,000 to cover transportation and some meals for these pastors.

Pastor Penn Clark, Pastor Jeff Martello, Grant Riehl, and I will be traveling down and ministering at this conference. Pastor Ted Brandt was planning to travel with us but is dealing with some health issues. Pray that God would heal his body.

Prayer requests:

  1. Our 2 crates of tools are still being held up in customs, this is disappointing, it was my hope that these tools would be put to good use by Eliel and his team. Please continue to pray that the tools will be released.
  2. Please pray that we will be able to complete the church building that we have started. It would be extra special if we could have a dedication service when we are there in December.
  3. Please pray that the pastors’ conference in December would strengthen and encourage the pastors that are coming. We are praying that God would pour out His Glory in our meetings.

Financial needs:

  1. Finishing the church construction – $3000-$3500
  2. Remaining cost for pastors’ conference $2000
